The Portuguese Creole of Batavia (now Jakarta, Indonesia) is extinct. Fortunately, Schuchardt published in 1891 a monograph about this Creole, although without a systematic grammatical analysis of the texts. My contribution analyses the TAM system of the Creole of Batavia, showing that it is aspectual and not temporal (as Papia Kristang and the Philippine Creoles), contrarily to most Atlantic Creoles which have the structural possibility of marking past tense in the domain of the imperfective aspect.
